Event Recorder Implantation

What is Event Recorder Implantation?

Event recorder implantation is a procedure to place a small device

under your skin that monitors and records your heart's electrical activity.
It’s used to detect and diagnose intermittent arrhythmias that may not be
captured during a regular ECG.

What happens during Event Recorder Implantation?

The procedure is minimally invasive and usually performed under
local anesthesia. A small incision is made, typically in the chest,
where the device is implanted. The event recorder continuously
monitors your heart and records any irregular activity when triggered by symptoms or automatically.

Why would I need Event Recorder Implantation?

You might need an event recorder if you experience unexplained fainting, dizziness, or palpitations, and other tests haven’t captured the irregular heart rhythms. It helps in diagnosing arrhythmias that occur sporadically.

Who needs Event Recorder Implantation?

This procedure is recommended for individuals with intermittent symptoms suggestive of arrhythmias that have not been diagnosed with other monitoring methods like Holter monitors or standard ECGs.

What are the risks of Event Recorder Implantation?

The procedure is generally safe, but risks include infection at the incision site, bleeding, or device-related issues. These risks are low, and the benefits of accurately diagnosing arrhythmias often outweigh them.

How do I prepare for Event Recorder Implantation?

Preparation involves following your doctor’s instructions on medication and fasting before the procedure. Wear comfortable clothing, arrange for transportation home, and inform your doctor of any medical conditions or allergies.
